(Middletown, De.): Clarion University's Men's Golf team is tied for fourth place and freshman Jared Schmader is tied for second in medal play, after the first day of the NCAA East Regional Golf Tournament held in Middletown, Delaware. Hosted at Back Creek Golf Club, the par-71 course shows West Liberty in first place with a team score of 303, while Fairmont State is one stroke back at 304, with Indiana in third place with a 307 total. Clarion is tied for fourth at 314 with Charleston and Millersville, with Ohio Valley in sixth place with a 316 and Concord in eighth place with a 319. Fairmont State's Jack Rudy posted an even par 71 to lead the medal play, while Clarion's Jared Schmader and California's Jon Lodovico are tied for second with one-over par 72's. Schmader started on #10 and shot a 1-over par 37 on that nine, then came back with an even par 35 for his 72. He had four birdies on his second nine, but a double bogey on #2 and a bogey on his final hole brought him in at 72. Other Clarion players on Monday had Justin Moose carding a 77 (15th), Sean Foust a 79 (21st), Justin Cameron an 86 and Preston Mullens an 87. The NCAA Division II Regional is a 54-hole event that will finish with play on Wednesday. Clarion head coach Al Lefevre is in his 9th season at Clarion and has led the Golden Eagles to the Regionals the last seven straight years. |
