April 24, 2008 (Berkeley Springs, W.V.): Clarion University's golf team placed second at the WVIAC/PSAC Challenge, held in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia on Tuesday. Ohio Valley won the event with a score of 300, Clarion was one stroke behind at 301, IUP was third at 306, California fourth with a 307 and Concord fifth at 312. A total of 12 teams participated. Clarion's Justin Cameron and Justin Moose were among a total of five players who tied for third place with a two-over par 74. Other Clarion golfers who scored in the event included Jared Schmader who finished 10th with a 76, Preston Mullens shot a 77 and tied for 13th and Ben Kamnikar shot an 86 and placed 49th. The Golden Eagles, under 9th year head coach Al Lefevre, have finished their Spring season. Clarion awaits an invitation to play in the NCAA Division II Super Regional on May 5-7 in New Castle, Delaware. Clarion is seeking its seventh straight bid to play in the East Regional. Last year Clarion finished seventh at the Regional. Their best showing was second in 2006. |
